I run Sierra Chart using Wine, and others do as well. See Linux I've never tried it in a VM, but it should work. Although, in that case I recommend optimizing the disk IO so that Sierra Chart is able to write to its intra-day files with the lowest lag. I don't know about VirtualBox, but with libvirt you can install Windows with RedHat's VirtIO disk driver to avoid having to emulate a SCSI or IDE device. And if you use a dedicated partition or LVM logical volume for the virtual disk instead of a file, then that would reduce some overhead as well; Since using a file would cause disk IO to have to go through two filesystems. |
