Rendering Issue with Time Range Highlight (Study/Price Overlay) on TPO chart

I have a TPO chart on which I want to highlight the ETH session to visually separate it from the RTH session. The desired result is shown on Screenshot 1. I did this by creating another chart with a Time Range Highlight study (which highlights the time period 18:00 - 09:29:59), and using the Study/Price Overlay study to get this study onto my TPO chart. The result almost works perfectly but there is one minor issue with it: Screenshot 2: When I open the TPO chart after 09:30, everything looks fine and as expected (I used orange in this example for better visibility): The highlighted area correctly stops on the last ETH column and before the RTH opens with column A. Screenshot 3: When I open the TPO chart at any time before 09:30, and then simply keep it open when the market opens at 09:30, the previous days are still correct (i.e., highlighted area stops before RTH open on these days), but the current day is not rendered correctly: the highlighted area for the current session does not stop before RTH open but rather continues indefinitely and eventually covers the whole day (ETH + RTH). I can fix this "rendering issue" seen in Screenshot 3 by temporarily hiding the Study/Price Overlay study and then showing it again. This "refresh" will redraw the zone correctly, and afterwards it looks as shown in Screenshot 2. However, this only seems to be a workaround to me, and it's honestly a little annoying having to do this every single day after RTH opens to fix my TPO chart. Maybe I miss something here, but I can't explain this strange behavior. Any help with this issue would greatly be appreciated. |

TPO charts do not use a standard method of defining time, therefore an item like the Time Range Highlight is not going to work properly on this chart, even with a Study/Price Overlay.

I see, thanks for the fast reply John. Is there maybe any other way to mark / highlight the beginning of the RTH session on the TPO chart (other than using the Time Range Highlight)? I'm usually not using letters but blocks on the TPO, so I need a way to somehow visually separate RTH and ETH. |

Why not use separate RTH and ETH profiles, especially if you are viewing the data with each sub-period in its own column. You can then color the letters differently for the sessions. Thanks for the suggestion John, but unfortunately this doesn't work for me. Using separate RTH and ETH profiles on my TPO would also give me two separate value areas and two VbPs (I have a Volume by Price study attached to each profile). But I rather need to see only one value area and one VbP per trading day. The attached screenshot shows how it currently looks in my chartbook. The only thing I actually need is a way to mark the RTH open. I already use a "Horizontal Line at Time" study (orange line) to mark the opening price at 09:30 (which interestingly works fine if I copy that over from another chart via the Study/Price Overlay). It just would be very helpful to visually mark the opening column A of the RTH session in the TPO as well. I had hoped the Time Range Highlight would work because the Horizontal Line at Time works as well. But if I understand your answer I'm probably out of luck here and there is no proper way to achieve what I want to do? In this case I guess I have to live with my previously described workaround, i.e., toggling the visibility of the study after RTH open to render it correctly. |

For what you want to do you can do the following: 1. On the TPO Inputs is an option for "TPO Letter/Block Colors". In there is an option for "Separate Colors for Day and Evening Sessions". This will allow you to color the day and evening sessions differently within a single TPO profile. Refer to the information here: Time Price Opportunity (TPO) Profile Charts: TPO Letter/Block Colors 2. There is not a way to mark the open of just the day session, but you can highlight the opening letter of each sub-period. Refer to the following for this: Time Price Opportunity (TPO) Profile Charts: Highlight Open Of Each New Sub Period Within TPO Profile For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Thank you very much John. I wasn't aware of this option to color day and evening sessions differently within the same TPO. Somehow I completely missed this. But that is exactly what I was looking for, and it solves my issue because I can now get rid of the Time Range Highlight study. Thanks! |
