Hello, I am rebuilding my Sierra Charts after a hard drive failure and am having trouble finding the settings I need to simply place manual trades in the Trading DOM. Using version 2666 with Teton Data, I would like to manually place a LIMIT order below price to enter a LONG position and vice versa for a SHORT. I also use a simple LIMIT order as a TARGET. Once the trade moves in my favor I then place a STOP to protect profit, but doing so CLOSES the trade. Before the hardware failure, my previous Data Feed was CQG (Order Routing Only). Please advise and thank you for your help, Pat |

How exactly are you entering the Stop order after the main order has filled? What order type (exactly) are you using to do this?

Hi, Thank you for responding. I'm clicking the Buy or Sell column in the Trading DOM. I just want a simple STOP order to close the trade IF the price action breaches it. Otherwise, I let it run so the profit will grow. Thanks, Pat |

Make sure the order types for entering an order from the DOM are set for what you want. Refer to the following: Global Trade Settings Windows: Order Types (Global Settings >> Chart DOM Settings) For the most reliable, advanced, and zero cost futures order routing, use the Teton service: Sierra Chart Teton Futures Order Routing |

Hi John, As far as I can tell the order types are set correctly. I just changed all the Right Click types to IGNORE because I always use a LEFT Click. Thanks, Pat |

We assume that when you are in a long position, that you would then left-click in the Sell column below the current price. From your image, this would place a Sell Stop order, which should work just fine. The opposite is true for a Short. The best thing to do is to enable the Order Confirmations and try your scenario and make sure that a "Sell Stop" or "Buy Stop" is in fact being placed per the confirmation. If this is the case and that stop is then closing you out, then we would need to look into this further, as it should not be occurring this way. Enabling Order Confirmations does not add anything to the Trade Service Log. It just will pop up a question when you place an order confirming that the order type and quantity are correct. We want to make sure you are seeing the correct order type for what you are entering on the DOM. Refer to the following for how to enable confirmations: Basic Trading and the Trade Window: Main/C >> Menu >> Order Confirmations (chart specific) Note the referenced global setting in the above, and make sure it is not set to "Yes". First, make sure the setting for "Global Settings >> Chart Trade Settings >> Disable Order Confirmations - Global" is set to "No". Then go to the chart where you are going to enter the order. If the Trade Window is not already attached to that chart, then select "Trade >> Attach Trade Window to Chart". This will attach the trade window to that chart, this way you know for sure that you are changing the settings for that chart. On the trade window, make sure there is a checkmark next to "M >> Confirmation >> Confirm New Order". If there is not, then select that item to have it enabled (have a checkmark next to it). The M button is to the right of the "Cancel All" button. You should get a confirmation when you place an order after this. Meaning you will get a popup asking you if you really want to place this order. There will be information on that confirmation, we need to know what it states in that window for: - Side: - Type: - Open/Close: - Account: Or if you can us an image of that popup, that would be helpful. John, Thanks or your patience. I enter using a LIMIT Order below price for a LONG (Buy) position and above price (Sell) for a short position. I have attempted to capture the entire desktop image including the confirmation window, but am unable to capture the image showing the confirmation for the protective in profit stop. I have noticed the confirmation window reads CLOSE for the "in profit" stop so that is the order type I need to change so that I can adjust as necessary until the price gets closer to my target. Thanks again, Pat |

Yes, I get the order confirmations. Based on my above mentioned trading style, I would like to know the order type setting for my "in profit STOP". Entry and Target are not a problem, however the STOP closes the trade and I would like to keep it open until I either flatten the trade or reach the target. Thanks, Pat |

Do you mean the order type, that will be used when you submit an order through the Trading DOM?
