Hello, After reading through the information regarding the new GSP initiative http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_GeneralDataTradeServiceProtocol.php I came upon one area in which I can help. The following is intended as a complete response to this section: Name and Logo It is our hope, that both the name of this protocol and the logo image for it, be something which gives it good recognition and is broadly supported. We are definitely open to having a different name given to it. A logo also needs to be developed for this protocol. Here is an overview of my artistic concepts for the name and imaging: NAME My proposed name for the standard is QUID PRO QUO or QPQ for short. Quid Pro Quo is Latin meaning "this for that" referencing exchange. More on that can be read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quid_pro_quo Contained in this phrase happens to be three very relevant root words. Quid, as we know is a reference for currency. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quid Pro, often references a positive and can be found in such relevant words as "professional" and "proactive". Quo, A QUO, A Latin phrase which signifies from which; example, in the computation of time, the day a quo is not to be counted, but the day ad quem is always included. And quite amazingly we find QUO in QUOTE! LOGO As for the logo, I made two quick sketches on some mail at my desk here. I am attaching them for reference as I will need to properly render the art on my graphics system. This will take some time. The concept for the logo stems from the symbol for Earth; a globe bisected by meridian lines into four quarters or, more simply put, a circle with a plus sign in the middle. The perpendicular lines are there to symbolize the Earth's directions; North, South, East, West. View Here: http://www.universetoday.com/14512/the-symbol-for-planet-earth My initial augmentation features an extension of the perpendicular lines as strike through double lines characteristic of many of the worlds currency symbols. Here are many of them: http://www.vectorstock.com/royalty-free-vector/currency-symbols-of-the-world-vector-632175 In my second rendition, I've enhanced the strikes into arrows pointing in all direction; symbolic of exchange and synchronistic direction flow. Here's a nice article on the symbolism of arrows http://drawsketch.about.com/cs/tipsandideas/p/doodle_arrow.htm I believe that the second sketch is the foundation for the logo. The first is included as insight into my thinking process. Attached below (at the bottom of the post) you will find my quick sketches. Rendering a proper logo will take some time although I thought it best to get this over ASAP to minimize retracements in the project. All the best to everyone over there, Alex Gross (C Notes) Date Time Of Last Edit: 2013-08-13 14:17:24

Thank you for this. For the name, we were thinking of something like DTC protocol which means Data and Trading Communications Protocol. Hi, Good to hear. With all due respect to the existing names, I might point out that given the immediate implementation of the protocol, It is obvious that it is being used for trading and data. With that said, is it not possible that there may be other uses in the future for this type of standard? If this is the case it would not be sensible to limit the applications from here forth by virtue of a given name. Thus, a sensible name should capture the spirit of the concept rather than it's obvious immediate application. Just my thoughts... |

There could be other types of uses, but our focus is just market data and trading.
